The Value in Failure
Because society views failure in such a negative way, many of us simply avoid trying new things rather than risk failure.
We stick with what we know: predictable responses, practiced skills, things that are familiar or comfortable. This is known as the "comfort zone" and staying within our comfort zone can stop us from trying new things (thereby saving us from suffering the humiliation of failure). Unfortunately, this can also cost us opportunities.
Failure produces two consequences: External (what happens out in the world) and Internal (what you think about yourself and how you interpret your actions).
Often external consequences are less damaging than the internal consequences.
FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS
The only real failure is not learning from mistakes. Think of "failure" as "feedback". When things don't work out, just ask yourself "what will I do differently next time!"
In order to innovate and respond to a fast-paced market, business owners and professionals must not have the kind of fear that prevents them from taking planned risks. Don't be afraid of failure, be prepared for it.
