Embracing Change to Make Things Work
When you have invested large amounts of money and time (not to mention pride) in some project or plan, it's easy to convince yourself that it simply has to work.
But if it doesn't, the sooner you can learn to be flexible and explore other strategies, the better your chances for success.
One way to increase your flexibility is by detaching your ego from your actions. In other words, you must separate who you are from what you do.
Sometimes it's hard to differentiate between when things aren't working and when you're just experiencing a temporary setback or market ramp-up period. Your gut feeling often provides the first clue your strategy needs changing. If you tune in to that feeling, then stop and measure your results; you'll have some hard data to direct you.
FLEXIBILITY means trying different approaches until you find what works best.
Change can be risky. There's always a chance a new idea won't work. Sometimes we feel safer using the same old methods, even when they don't get the results we want. We become anxious about what could happen with a new method. It might be better, but it could be worse - and then what?
Define and limit your risk before you jump in.
